A New Way To Tweet: Twitter Blue


Popular social media platform Twitter launches a new paid subscription service for its “power users”.  The Twitter “Blue” subscription is currently available in Canada and Australia.

As of today, Twitter Blue allows users to change the color of their app icon, undo tweets, and manage bookmarked content on their app, with more premium features being implemented based on user feedback. Blue subscribers will still see sponsored content and advertising, meaning this current subscription does not offer an ad-free experience. A dedicated subscription customer support team is also available for subscribers.

Twitter Blue subscriptions are currently priced at CAD $3.49 (£2.04) and AUD $4.49 (£2.46) per month.

With Twitter Blue being the first subscription service, there is room for more subscription tiers in Twitter’s future. These may include more ad-friendly or ad-adverse tiers that can impact a business’s digital marketing.

However, the free, original Twitter is not going away anytime soon. Twitter Product Managers Sara Beykpour and Smita Mittal Gupta say in a joint statement “[A] free Twitter is not going away, and never will. This subscription offering is simply meant to add enhanced and complementary features to the already existing Twitter experience for those who want it”.
